This beautiful hill tribe doll represents the Pwo Karen people. The Karen live in Thailand, China, Burma (Myanmar), Laos and Vietnam. The Karen Pwo is a subdivision of the ethnic Karen group. Her costume is the traditional costume of a Pwo Karen girl or unmarried woman. This doll is made in Thailand and has it's original label under it's stand that should read: 'Name of Doll: Karen, Designed by: Vanida S. Mongkhon, Handmade by: Youthana Boonprakong, Made in Thailand'. She is holding a flat bamboo threshing basket and a round basket with some fruit and on the back is a basket filled with cotton. Slight discoloration of the red fabrics on the edge of her dress below and on the head, fine otherwise.
